What are musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)? These are periarticular disorders that occur when the ability of musculoskeletal structures to adapt and recover is exceeded. These disorders are often of professional origin.
MSDs develop gradually and are caused by the overuse of the constituents of the musculoskeletal system: nerves, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, invertebral discs and blood vessels. Physical inactivity and poor diet are also favorable factors for the onset or persistence of musculoskeletal disorders. MSDs result from repetitive activities, movements that demand unnatural posture, excessive efforts, exposure to cold, heat or vibration. In addition, psychosocial factors, such dissatisfaction, tension and lack of gratitude, can negatively impact your body.
The most common MSDs are back pain, tendonitis, bursitis, epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tension neck syndrome. Some fractures and traumatic injuries are also MSDs. Several musculoskeletal disorders affect the hands, wrists, elbows, arms, neck, shoulders, back, knees, ankles and feet. Acute and chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia and lumbago (lower back pain) are considered musculoskeletal diseases.
You may be suffering from MSD if you are experiencing discomfort, decreased range of motion, pain during movement or touch, or numbness. Your chiropractor will give you personalized care for your condition and MSD. We also recommend minimizing excess weight, physical inactivity and poor diet, and of course reducing movements that create musculoskeletal injuries and pains. Do not forget that pain is your friend and it sends you signals so that you spare your body, in order to - if possible - avoid irreversible conditions.
